Upcycling Textiles

2020 - Ongoing

Repurposing scrap fabric & clothes

For 4 years now, I have not bought any new clothes; only buying second-hand or upcycling clothes I already have. As the fashion economy tries to move towards a more circular system, I endeavour to use my skills to reduce the volume of wasted clothes around me. I have altered clothes for many friends and family alongside my own refashioning projects to reduce material waste.

Project Outcomes:

  • Fledging alteration & customisation business

  • 4-year personal ban on the purchase of new garments

  • Alteration or entire redesign of over 70 disused items of clothing

  • Short form media content

Denim

Denim is extremely mainstream, but it is extremely hard to breakdown and generally not recyclable. Making new clothes from old jeans became a great way for me to combat this.

Scrap Fabric

Utilising fabric offcuts from some show costumes I altered for my university dance team.

Disused Clothes

I have upcycled many pieces over the years. This particular one was my grandmother’s old dressing gown, and I took inspiration from trending dresses I was seeing on my social media feed to create something up to date.
