Millinery
2018 - Ongoing
Reinventing a historical practice
Hat making (millinery) is a design process within the fashion and accessory industry that has been ongoing and evolving for many years. After having spent two summers working alongside Katherine Elizabeth, I have explored multiple facets of this art form and have created many of my own pieces, using new materials and taking inspiration from our modern world.
Project Outcomes:
Multiple pieces for clients
5-piece capsule collection
A* Art A-Level portfolio
Winner of International Fashion Accessories Design Residential Scholarship at the College for Creative Studies, Detroit for pieces designed and made from recycled materials.
Designing for Clients
Traditional fascinator styles for clients attending Ascot royal box, weddings and other formal events, often designed to pair with a dress. Included design proposals and sketches, costing spreadsheets and delivery.
Playing with Light
Thermo-forming acrylic to replicate naturally-occurring light refraction patterns, whilst keeping the traditional, iconic shapes I’d learnt about.
Repurposing Waste
Creating wearable art from wasted plastic bags & packaging, redefining their look from trash to elegance.
