Aria
2023
Embedded computing for music creation
Created for a physical computing module as part of a team of two, Aria intakes physiological and environmental data to create original music responsive to the user’s lived experience. The device is worn on the wrist and produces realtime or playback audio through a headphone jack.
Project Outcomes:
Design proposal including budget breakdown
3D printed & soldered initial prototype
Project video and portfolio
Live presentation and demonstration
User Interaction
4 sensors detect ‘emotional’, physical or atmospheric changes, and the music created changes accordingly.
Electronics & Code
A Bela Board was used for its optimised audio and realtime capacities (c++ code). Using breadboard prototyping we were able to optimise the code for signal processing before soldering.
Hardware Manufacture
3D printing was used for hardware manufacture from a CAD design. The prints were then assembled with standardised nuts and bolts.
